Erikson, Tomlin, and Swain Michelle Gilliland Northern Kentucky University Nursing Theory NRP 434 Cindy Foster February 07, 2013 Erickson, Tomlin, and Swain The Modeling and Role Modeling Theory of nursing was created by Helen C. Erickson, along with Evelyn M. Tomlin and Mary Ann P. Swain. It was first published in their book, Modeling and Role Modeling: A Theory and Paradigm for Nursing, which was published in 1983. On her marriage to Lance Erickson in 1957, the psychiatrist Milton Erickson became her father-in-law; he was a major influence on her nursing career and pivotal to the development of her ideas, especially the concept of MRM. In addition to†¦show more content†¦The theory was born from the concept of holism, stating that humans have a number of interacting subsystems with inherent bases (Erickson, Tomlin, amp; Swain, 1983). The common definitions of modeling and role modeling are used differently. The term modeling assumes that each individual, based on his or her past experiences and impressions, has a unique model of the world. Modeling is the process used by the nurse to understand the patients world from that unique perspective. This information is aggregated and analyzed to plan interventions. Role-modeling follows as the nurses facilitation of the patient to meet the interventions and goals that were determined from th e modeling process (Erickson, 1983). The theory describes modeling and role-modeling as both a science and an art. The science involves aggregation and analysis of the patient information and the art requires communication skills and the ability to make individualized interventions. (Erickson, 1983). To achieve a true state of health, nurses must facilitate health that speaks to all areas of a persons needs. In doing this the nurse may also feel fulfilled, as Erickson claims to be; she describes fully accepting patients and providing nurturance as the meaning of her life (Peterson amp; Bredow, 2009). Malone, Mariaun The tone and theme affect the mood in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by telling what the main idea of the story will be about. The tone is a mixture of funny, playful, and horror. The headless horseman is known by bad things but he is used to do funny things. His love for her is crazy, soft, and foolish. â€Å"When school hours were over, he was even the compan and playmate of the†¦.. †(pg. 10) This quote shows the theme of community. It exhibits how Ichabod helped out in the community. â€Å"His bussy fancy already realized his hopes, and presented to him†¦Ã¢â‚¬  (pg. 22 . Brom and Ichabod both liked Katrina. Brom was trying to make Ichabod look crazy and weird in front of her. The tone of the book is funny, playful, and horror. â€Å"Just then he heard the black steed panting and blowing close behind him, he even†¦Ã¢â‚¬  (pg. 63) The headless horseman chasing after Ichabod crane showed the theme of a playful book. It was not really the headless horseman. It was Brom trying to scare crane because of his jealousy. He was jealous of Ichabod and Katrina. â€Å"Always burst into hearty laugh at the mention of the pumpkin. †(pg. 7) Brom was laughing when they mentioned the pumpkin when Crane was brought up. â€Å"Certain is the place still continues under the†¦Ã¢â‚¬  (pg. 3) In this book there are lots of spells and weird creatures. The headless horseman is an example of a weird creature. The mood of The Legend of the Sleepy Hollow is foreshadowing, suspenseful, and scary. â€Å"The bridge became more than ever an object. †(pg. 6 3) The author was foreshadowing that something might happen to or on the bridge. Also, that the bridge was haunted. â€Å"There is a little valley, or rather lap of land, among high hills†¦Ã¢â‚¬  (pg. ) This quote is foreshadowing and scary. This foreshadows what type of place Sleepy Hollow was. This makes the reader think that Sleepy Hollow might be a place where weird thing happen. in this quote he was describing Sleepy Hallow. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow was boring but described in a scary way. This book was a book of fantasy. Irving could have had better dialogue by using real characters and having more action. More people are able to find their mate through online dating. Most of the profits made by dating companies come from online and mobile dating services provide a lot of creative services. Harvey claims that people prefer online dating is because it provides more options and easier to find someone that meets their criteria. However, companies are not able to solve all the problems of online dating so a lot of new apps are released to perfect the industry. Overall, Online dating as a new way of building relationships, has benefits people in many different ways. Firstly, internet helps people from all around the world to connect with each other. By using online dating, we can meet people from different countries, generations or social circles. It provides you with more chances to meet new people, makes it easier to find someone who meets your criteria, at the same time it saves you time to go around and search for your potential spouse. As you read others profiles and sharing your personally interests or hobbies online, you should be able to find someone who is passionated on the same thing as you do. You may started to notice that more and more people around you are using it. In my opinion, online dating is going to be the main trend of dating and it is going to replace the traditional in-person blind dating. There are a lot of rooms for improvement of those dating sites or apps out there but all the advantages makes it attractive. You have to be careful and cautious when using these sites, just like when you are using the internet. Don’t spend too much time on it and avoid expensive dating sites which are useless and worthless of that price. As long as we can follow these rules, online dating will definitely be a good way to find a potential spouse.
